Welcome to Burnham Area Evening Flower Club. We have just one more meeting this year; on 27th November at The Princess Theatre. Top National Demonstrator Jonathan Moseley will be our Demonstrator at The Princess, who you might recognise from BBC2s The Big Allotment Challenge. Jonathans job was to try to teach challengers to make bouquets and arrange the flowers they had grown.
Tickets to see Jonathans ‘Fabulously Festive’ demonstration are available at just £12.50 from the Princess Theatre Box Office. Jonathan will also be holding a workshop for club members on November 28th.
The club will also be running classes and workshops for beginners and more advanced members throughout the year. Social events are organised as well, and we raise money for charity.
At our October meeting a fellow national demonstrator, Lucy Ellis, created some lovely designs under the title ‘Fusion’. In this design Lucy ‘fused’ traditional and contemporary styles.
It is usual at our meetings for our demonstrator to arrange 5 or 6 designs, and you can sit back and relax with free tea or coffee. We also have sales tables where you can buy flower arranging mechanics and accessories, and a wide selection of plants, all at bargain prices, and if you buy some raffle tickets you could be taking home some of the flowers arranged by our demonstrator.
In September, Linda Garrett, one of our Area Demonstrators created a collection of designs under the title ‘WYSIWYG’. Here she is at work.
New members and visitors are always welcome to the club, and every year we have a special ‘Friends and Family’ evening. But you don’t have to wait, you can come along to any meeting during the year as a visitor for just £6.50 which includes refreshments. Our annual Club and Competition Night was in June. Go to our Facebook page and see what you think of our efforts!
Members are often involved in local Church Flower Festivals and other Community events. On May Day members helped local children decorate the pergola in Marine Cove Gardens.
Members also helped at the Burnham EAT event on 27th May by providing stewards for the Bake -Off event. We also helped decorate Our Lady and The English Martyrs Church on 16th and 17th June at the Festival of Flowers and Quilts to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the building.
We also arranged flowers for St Andrews Church celebratory concert on 2 September.
The club is affiliated to the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS), which has charitable status. NAFAS is divided into Areas and we belong to the South West Area, which has around 2,000 members. The South West Area organises education days on various aspects of flower arranging, and our members can go along and participate in these events.
Belonging to NAFAS is an enjoyable experience and will open up a whole new world for you, so why not come along to our club as a guest and find out more? We would be very pleased to see you! Visit our What’s On page to find out what’s happening in the coming months, and you can also see what we’re doing through our Facebook pages.
