Our Christmas Open Meeting at The Princess Theatre was an amazing evening where we were entertained by Tracey Griffin, National Demonstrator, Teacher, Florist, Creative Designer. She also won Designer of the Year 2017. Her demonstration “FOREVER FESTIVE ” used fantastic flowers, designs and ideas that can be scaled down to fit our festive tables.

An enjoyable evening was spent on 11th September at Our Lady and The English Martyrs Church . Tracey Johnson entertained us with her demonstration entitled “Autumn Treasures”
The June meeting was very enjoyable. It was Club and Competition Night. We had a short talk and demonstration by Glenda Martin, refreshments and a quizz. The competition was well suported. Pictures and results on our Competition page.
The club also runs classes and workshops for beginners and more advanced members throughout the year. Social events are organised as well, and we raise money for charity.
It is usual at our meetings for our demonstrator to arrange 5 or 6 designs, and you can sit back and relax with free tea or coffee. If you buy some raffle tickets you could be taking home some of the flowers arranged by our demonstrator.
We also raise money for local charities. In 2017 we collected £450 for S.U.R.E., providing additional equipment for patients of The Beacon Centre at Musgrove Hospital Taunton. The charity’s Representative was presented with a cheque at our AGM on 15th January 2018.
During 2018 our chosen charity was The League of Friends at Burnham Hospital.
New members and visitors are always welcome to the club, and every summer we have a special ‘Friends and Family’ evening, which this year will be on July 9th. But you don’t have to wait until then, you can come along to any meeting during the year as a visitor for just £6.50 which includes refreshments. Our 2018 annual Club and Competition Night was in June. Go to our Facebook page and see what you think of our efforts! This year our competitions will have an Autumn feel on 10th September.
Members are often involved in local Church Flower Festivals and other Community events. On May Day 2017 members helped local children decorate the pergola in Marine Cove Gardens.
Members also helped at the Burnham EAT event on 27th May by providing stewards for the Bake -Off event, and we helped decorate Our Lady and The English Martyrs Church on 16th and 17th June at the Festival of Flowers and Quilts to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the building.
We also arranged flowers for St Andrews Church celebratory concert on 2 September.
The club is affiliated to the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS), which has charitable status. NAFAS is divided into Areas and we belong to the South West Area, which has around 2,000 members. The South West Area organises education days on various aspects of flower arranging, and our members can go along and participate in these events.
Belonging to NAFAS is an enjoyable experience and will open up a whole new world for you, so why not come along to our club as a guest and find out more? We would be very pleased to see you! Visit our What’s On page to find out what’s happening in the coming months, and you can also see what we’re doing through our Facebook pages.
